The Val Mezdì, or Val de Mesdì in Ladin language, is located in the heart of the Sella Group. This is also where some scenes of the famous movie "Cliffhanger" with Silvester Stallone were filmed. But this is not the only reason why this valley is very famous...
Figures reveal that freeriding down this narrow couloir is not for the faint-hearted. Only experts should dare to face this challenge, as the Val Mezdì is really steep and bounded by craggy rock faces. It is about 3 km long and features a drop of 1,100 m. The average descent of the valley is 34%. At its foot, there is the village of Colfosco.
A freeride race was already staged here in the 1940s, in the early freeride times. In the 2000s, this classic freeride run in the Eastern Alps experienced a comeback as the "Alta Badia Dolomites Freeride Race".
