An interesting hike on the traces of the Mountain Warfare 1915-1918, which are still visible in the Fanes Group today

A 20 km long hike between history, nature and impressive peaks along well-signposted paths - this is the tour on the traces of the battle front at the Lagazuoi, called "Giro della Grande Guerra" in Italian. The name comes from the Mountain Warfare in the Dolomites, which formed the front line between Italy and Austria in WWI (1914-1918). Some particularly fierce battles were fought on the 2,462 m high Col di Lana in the Fanes Group.
This hike is an impressive alpine tour at the feet of famous peaks. Especially in the area of the Lagazuoi 5 Torri numerous traces of the Mountain Warfare can be found, among them tunnels, positions and trenches. A true outdoor museum!
From the Passo di Falzarego mountain pass we walk uphill on the path no. 402 to the Forcella Travenanzes wind gap, where we follow path no. 20B towards the Bivacco Chiesa and Rif. Scotoni mountain hut (rest point). We recommend a rest at the beautiful Lake Lagazuoi. At the mountain hut we follow the signposts to the Passo di Valparola and then to the Passo di Falzarego.
