Dumplings, dishes of wild game, ravioli and some sweet treats - the Ladin cuisine invites to indulge and to enjoy
As far as the variety of food is concerned, in times gone by there were only few products and the preparation was straightforward. However, due to the lack of food, creativity was necessary to prepare delicious and nourishing meals despite of the limited choice.
Dishes according to ancient recipes or traditional Ladin delicacies are offered nowadays in the many restaurants of the valley or during the culinary events taking place every year. The specialities of the Alta Badia include for example the barley soup made of barley, smoked speck (ham), smoked meat, carrots, leeks, potatoes and celery.
Also dumplings and dishes of wild game play an important role. To a soup, however, you can taste "turtres" (cottage cheese, spinach or cabbage filled pasties) or "cajinci" (stuffed pasta pockets similar to ravioli, filled with cottage cheese and spinach). And as desert we recommend something sweet such as the traditional apple strudel or the "Kiachln" (a fried pastry). Enjoy your meal!
