The small and quiet hamlet is located in idyllic position at the foot of the Sasso di Santa Croce Group and the Armentara Meadows
This small village in the Alta Badia, also called La Valle (in Italian) and Wengen (in German, La Val is the Ladin name), is situated at 1,353 m a.s.l. Its position renders La Val a perfect starting point for hikes throughout the Fanes-Senes-Braies and Puez-Odle Nature Parks. Popular destinations are e.g. the uncontaminated Antersasc Valley or the biotope at the Ju de Rit saddle. Also the solitary St. Barbara Chapel which can be reached on the contemplation trail, is a well-known excursion destination. By the way: since summer 2015, La Val is the first certified hiking village of South Tyrol.
Those who love winter sports, however, can look forward to Mt. Plan de Corones and the Alta Badia ski resort with its access to the famous Sella Ronda, the ski circuit round the Sella alpenstock. Ice skating and a comfy sled ride in the beautiful winter landscape complete the offer.
Art lovers can look forward to several places of interest which La Val has got to offer, for example the cemetery chapel of La Valle Vecchia, located near the ruins of the former parish church, one of the oldest buildings of the valley, the parsonage with its baroque façade fresco, the late Gothic granary in Pastrogn, the mill with fresco in Rumestluns as well as the new St. Genesius Parish Church, characterised by baroque wooden sculptures and a ceiling fresco by Max Gher.
